User Experience

I'm very satisfied with the Rinnai RUC98iN Ultra Series Tankless Water Heater that I purchased for my home. I needed a continuous hot water supply for my new Jacuzzi bathtub and this tankless heater provided exactly that. The installation process was challenging, especially the venting part, but after a lot of effort, I managed to install it myself. Once installed, it ran smoothly and quietly, providing unlimited hot water supply. The only downside I experienced was a slight increase in the time it took for the water to heat up, but it wasn't a major issue for me.

Community Feedback

From the moment I installed this super high-efficiency heater in my home, I had been enjoying its benefits. Its compact size made installation a breeze, and it easily provided endless hot water for my three-bathroom household. Being Energy Star qualified and fitted with green technology, I felt good about the environmental impact, too. However, I was a bit disappointed that it only works up to an altitude of 5,400 feet and I had to purchase a separate Wi-Fi module to control the temperature. Despite these minor drawbacks, the heater had been a fantastic addition to my home and I would highly recommend it.

First-Hand Impression

I'm thrilled with my tankless water heater because it has made a huge difference in our household, especially with three girls who take multiple showers per evening. Before, we used to worry about running out of hot water, but now the water temperature remains constant, ensuring endless hot water for everyone. Although the initial cost and installation were higher than a traditional tank, the increase in quality of life, potential long-term savings, and extra space in our utility room make it well worth the investment.

User Experience

Love the endless hot water provided by this tankless heater, but there were a few drawbacks I experienced. It required some plumbing adjustments and an electric circuit, which was a bit of a hassle. Additionally, there's a fan motor that makes quite a bit of noise when it's off, which can be annoying. Lastly, I noticed a drop in water pressure after installation, but overall, I'll have to live with it since it's already installed.

Which Rinnai Series Should You Choose?

Rinnai is renowned for its tankless water heaters, which we will focus on in this article. The company has four lines of units, which are sorted according to efficiency. These are High-Efficiency, High-Efficiency Plus, Super High-Efficiency, and Super High-Efficiency Plus.

This makes it easier to understand which product is best for your needs. All of the lines come with their own sets of features and functions but they all have some things in common.

One common element is the uniform energy factor, which ranges between 0.79 and 0.95. All units are fuelled by either natural gas or propane.

A feature of Rinnai’s tankless boilers that makes them stand out is their ability to handle multiple outlets simultaneously. Most of their units can be used as a whole-house water heater.

Another thing that all current models have in common is their Wi-Fi compatibility. This makes them conveniently controlled from your phone via the Rinnai Control-R app.

High-Efficiency Series

In a sense, Rinnai’s High-Efficiency series is the brand’s “economy” line and their price reflects this. These heaters are still highly efficient but aren’t fitted with as many high-tech features as the other Rinnai lines.

The High-Efficiency line contains just one series of products: the V series. These are a great choice for small to average households of two to four people.

Most of the products can handle a maximum of four outlets at a time. They have a uniform energy factor of 0.79 to 0.82.

High-Efficiency Plus Series

This series contains two different lines: RL and RLX. These have a uniform energy factor of 0.80 to 0.81 and are capable of supporting a maximum of four outlets.

What sets them apart from the V line is their incorporated recirculation support. This effectively increases the models’ flow rate, delivering a faster flow of hot water.

Super High-Efficiency Series

Rinnai’s third range is its Super High-Efficiency series. Here there are two lines: the RUCS and RUS. Both are Energy Star compliant and have a uniform energy factor of 0.90.

They have an average flow rate of 7 gallons per minute. Although they are less powerful than the RL and RLX lines, most will still be able to support three outlets at a time. This makes them ideal for smaller households.

The models in this series are Wi-Fi-ready and include a 12-year warranty.

Super High-Efficiency Plus Series

Rinnai’s Super High-Efficiency Plus series contains three different lines: RUC, RU, and RUR. These are the créme de la créme of Rinnai’s tankless water heaters.

The products in this series are all Energy Star compliant and able to support a recirculation pump. At the lower end of this series, we have the RUC line which has a uniform energy factor of 0.92. This is followed by the RU line, which has a UEF of 0.91 to 0.93.

At the pinnacle in terms of efficiency, we find the RUR line. These have a UEF of 0.92 up to 0.95. Most of these will also include a ThermaCirc360 recirculation pump, adding to their efficiency.
