The Best Farmhouse Sinks of 2024

The growing popularity of farmhouse sinks means you now have plenty of options to choose from while shopping. To narrow your search, we have reviewed seven of the best farmhouse sinks currently on the market, chosen for their material, size, number of basins, and apron style.

Kraus Kore Farmhouse Sink with Workstation

Best Farmhouse Sink with Workstation

A sink with an integrated workstation can help you save a great deal of countertop space. This Kraus farmhouse sink is a beautiful 33-inch model that will look great in any industrial-style kitchen.

You will receive multiple high-quality accessories, including a solid wood cutting board. The accessories easily fit onto the ledge for an all-in-one food preparation and cleaning solution. Its large bowl provides plenty of space to soak and clean large pots, pans, and trays.

The entire sink is made of 16-gauge stainless steel that is not only durable but also easy to clean.

What We Like

Spacious

This vast sink provides plenty of space for a busy kitchen. You should be able to fit your largest items into it without clogging the entire sink. It is not only wide but also deep, which means you should be able to soak pots and pans in it.

The drain is offset, and the base of the sink is slightly sloped to direct water and food debris into the drain.

High-Quality

This sink is made of 16-gauge stainless steel, which is among the strongest types for kitchen sinks. It has an attractive brushed finish that will complement many modern kitchen appliances. The finish is also resistant to rust and corrosion and will hide scratches better than a shiny surface.

Beneath the sink, there are extra-thick pads that will effectively absorb sounds. To make the sink even more soundproof, Kraus has added a special undercoat that reduces noise and vibrations.

Useful Accessories

This product includes everything you need for a complete workstation. A solid bamboo cutting board slides easily onto the integrated ledge and sits level with the surrounding counter. The bamboo board won’t warp or crack, and it is highly resistant to odor buildup.

When you need to dry your dishes, you can place them in the roll-up dish drying rack. It slips onto the ledge and is safe enough to hold glasses. You can also place a dish grid at the bottom of the sink to protect it from scratches.

What We Don't Like

Very Deep

A deep sink is usually a good thing, but you need to make sure you have enough space for it. This one is 10 inches deep, so double-check that you have enough room to install it.

User Experience

Bought this 30" single basin sink during a remodeling project and it is indeed a huge upgrade from my previous 2 basin sink. The large basin accommodates large pans easily and the included drying rack and cutting board that fit on top are quite useful. However, the drain was not compatible with a garbage disposal and I found the square corners and edges at the bottom tend to collect grime if not cleaned after every use. The stainless steel finish is not brushed, so any food that sits leaves marks and the steep angles make it slightly difficult to rinse all food bits down the drain.

Zuhne Turin 33-Inch Double Bowl Farmhouse Sink

Best Double Farmhouse Sink

The Zuhne Turin is one of the most popular two-bowl farmhouse sinks. Farmhouse sinks with two basins are relatively rare and this is one of the finest examples.

The Turin is made of durable 16-gauge stainless steel that is resistant to rust, corrosion, and dents. The sizing ratio is the standard 60/40, so one bowl is slightly larger than the other.

This sink includes several accessories, such as two grids and drain strainers. Your purchase is protected by a lifetime warranty and free returns.

What We Like

Quiet

The sound of water hitting an empty sink can be surprisingly loud, which is why this model has been fitted with excellent insulation to absorb noise and vibrations. It will even help reduce the noise of your garbage disposal if you have one.

Sloped Base

The sloped base directs water to the rear-set 3.5-inch drains. This encourages the water to leave the sink quickly instead of leaving puddles that can create stains.

High-Quality

The double sink is made of 16-gauge stainless steel. This is industrial strength and will serve you for many years. The material is also non-toxic and lead-free, so you can use it with confidence.

You can use this sink with boiling hot or freezing cold water without worrying about condensation, thanks to its insulation.

What We Don't Like

Shows Fingerprints

Despite being resistant to rust, corrosion, and dents, the finish shows fingerprints quite clearly. You can prevent this by wiping it down after each use or before you go to bed.

Personal Perspective

This stainless steel sink has a robust and high-quality feel, and it's a perfect fit for the industrial design aesthetic. The sink provides a pleasingly uniform and symmetrical shape, and I found the grates at the bottom of the sink bowls to be practical, ensuring that my wooden utensils are not left sitting in water. Despite some concerns about scratches on stainless steel, I'm of the opinion that such marks contribute to a desirable "well-used" look. I did encounter a minor issue with the strainer baskets provided, which due to space constraints, I was unable to utilize. Despite this, the overall design and functionality of the sink, such as the deep bowls and its suitability for a roll-up dish rack, has made it a valuable addition to my kitchen remodel.

Bocchi Classico Apron-Front Fireclay Sink

Best Color Range Farmhouse Sink

If you want something that will stand out from the usual stainless steel sinks, this Bocchi is a great option. The Classico is an apron-front 30-inch single-bowl sink. It is made of fireclay and is available in three unique colors.

Fireclay is exceptionally durable compared to other sink materials. It is also resistant to water spots and fingerprints and can be easily wiped clean.

Your purchase includes a bottom grid to protect the sink when you place heavy pots and pants into it. The sink is also protected by a limited lifetime warranty.

What We Like

Unique

Fireclay not only gives your kitchen a timeless feel but you can also choose from three different colors. The Classico sink is available in classic white, matte brown, and striking sapphire blue.

Heavy-Duty

The fireclay material will endure being used in even the busiest kitchen. It is 100% mineral-based, making it a natural choice. Fireclay is a tried and tested material that has been used for centuries due to its excellent strength and durability.

Smooth Texture

Fireclay kitchen sinks are known for their smooth texture but Bocchi has taken this to another level. The manufacturer claims the Classico sink is as much as 19 times smoother than other glazed ceramic sinks.

This makes it more hygienic as grime and germs are less likely to stick to the surface. It is easy to wipe it down using a microfiber cloth to restore its shine.

Resistant

Bocchi fireclay sinks are fired in kilns at temperatures reaching up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes the material more than tough enough for even the hottest pots and pans.

The sink is also highly resistant to impacts and won’t chip or crack. The glazed surface is stain-resistant and non-porous for easier maintenance.

What We Don't Like

Very Gentle Slope

Overall, Bocchi has made an excellent farmhouse sink, but it has one flaw. The slope leading to the drain is very gentle so it might not remove all water and food debris.

Community Feedback

Great sink with a deep basin, providing ample space for dish washing and draining. The included metal rack is handy, although the silicone feet do tend to get a bit gross and require replacement. The sink's finish remains in good condition even after substantial use, but does need frequent rinsing to keep clean. Be prepared for a challenging installation if the sink size isn't precisely as expected, and note the color may differ slightly from pictures.

Kraus Standart Pro Round Farmhouse Sink

Most Stylish Farmhouse Sink

The Kraus Standart Pro is a beautifully crafted two-bowl sink. It is made of premium T304 stainless steel with a satin finish.

The bowls are fitted with thick sound-absorbing pads and feature a protective undercoat that minimizes condensation. They have a 60/40 size ratio, so one is slightly larger than the other but both have equal depth.

Subtle grooves and a slight slope lead to the drain, preventing puddles from being left in the sink. Two grids are included to protect the bowls as well as drain strainer baskets to prevent clogs.

You won’t need to worry about the volume as the water hits the bowl. There are extra-thick pads fitted beneath the sink that absorb sounds and vibrations, keeping your kitchen quieter when using the sink.

What We Like

Heavy-Duty

The 16-gauge stainless steel is heavy-duty and highly durable โ€” it is resistant to rust, corrosion, and dents. The undercoat helps protect your cabinets from harmful condensation.

Curved Corners

Square corners can be difficult to clean and are more susceptible to rust as water becomes stuck in the corners. This sink has rounded corners that are easy to clean and won’t trap water.

Deep

This sink is an impressive 10 inches deep, enough to soak large pots and pans. The double sinks mean you will have an extra bowl when washing dishes or cleaning vegetables in the other one. This makes it a far more versatile option than a single-bowl sink.

What We Don't Like

Needs Wiping Down

Despite apparently being resistant to rust, it is important that you wipe the sink every day before you go to bed. Water left in the bowl can cause small rust spots that are difficult to deal with.

First-Hand Impression

I'm really impressed with this sink's aesthetics and overall quality. The deep bowls add a nice touch and the accessories included, such as the grids and drains, are of high standard and complement the sink perfectly. However, it does attract fingerprints easily and the lack of clear instructions and mounting hardware was a bit of a letdown, but nothing a little DIY spirit couldn't handle.

Lordear Commercial 33-Inch Farmhouse Sink

Best Commercial Farmhouse Sink

This sleek 16-gauge farmhouse sink from Lordear is a popular choice. It has a simple, stainless steel finish that makes it a perfect fit for the majority of modern kitchens.

The thick material is heavy-duty and resistant to dents and other damage. Large pots, pans, and trays can fit comfortably into the sink thanks to its wide and deep bowl. Your purchase includes a few useful accessories, such as a drain strainer basket and bottom grid to protect the surface.

What We Like

Quiet

Water can produce a surprising amount of noise when it hits a large sink, especially in an otherwise quiet kitchen. Lordear addressed this by fitting high-quality sound-absorbing pads at various points under the sink. These will both absorb sound and minimize vibrations.

Rounded Corners

To increase the capacity of the sink and make it easier to clean, it is designed with R10 angled corners. These rounded corners won’t trap water, making it easy to wipe them clean and prevent damage.

Unusual Accessories

Many farmhouse sinks include the standard drain strainer and bottom grid, and sometimes a cutting board and drying rack. However, this one includes some unusual accessories, such as a high-quality apron cloth, microwave oven gloves, and a thermal insulation pad.

What We Don't Like

Gentle Slope

Unfortunately, this sink only has a gentle slope leading to its drain. This means you might have to manually remove leftover water and food debris unless you have a pull-down faucet.

User Experience

My experience with this sink has been a mix of delight and slight disappointment. The aesthetic appeal is undeniable - its high-quality, heavy-duty feel and striking look are truly impressive, and it's been a conversation starter in my kitchen. However, the installation process was complicated due to its unique edging and it didn't drain as expected, which required some additional effort on my part.

Kohler Whitehaven Farmhouse Sink

Best Cast Iron Farmhouse Sink

If you want a high-end, high-quality farmhouse sink, the Kohler Whitehaven is an excellent choice. It is an enameled cast iron sink that is not only visually appealing but also durable.

This sink was made to endure many years of heavy use. It is stain-resistant, heat-resistant, and resistant to damage.

Kohler has also designed it to be very versatile. It can be installed as an undermount or top mount, depending on your preference and your current counters.

What We Like

Easy to Install

This sink is very easy to install. If your counter is already cut for a sink, you can simply slip this sink in and fix it in place. You won’t need to drill any faucet holes.

High-Quality

This enameled cast iron sink is heavy and durable. Kohler guarantees that the sink won’t crack, chip, or melt. It is highly resistant to heat and can withstand extreme temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Easy to Clean

The smooth, glazed surface is very easy to clean and only requires a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth. It is non-porous and won’t absorb moisture, so you shouldn’t have to worry about stains.

Recycled Materials

The Whitehaven sink is made using 80% recycled materials, so it is an eco-friendly option for a new sink.

What We Don't Like

Susceptible to Rust

Despite being a high-end model, this sink is quite susceptible to rust. Metal pots and pans can cause rust stains at the bottom of the sink if they are left in it for too long. Many customers purchased a bottom grid to overcome this issue.

Personal Perspective

This Kohler sink is a true marvel in my kitchen, exhibiting an impressive quality of craftsmanship and a finish that radiates a pure white glow under light. The self-trimming apron front design is a standout feature, effectively concealing any installation mishaps and adding a refined edge to the sink area. Its enamel-over-iron composition gives it a distinct, substantial 'ring' when knocked, a testament to its robustness. The 30" size, although initially a concern due to my compact kitchen, turned out to be perfect, comfortably accommodating my dish drainer racks. A precautionary measure I took was adding 2x4 supports underneath to avoid overloading the cabinet frames, a small task that provides significant peace of mind. The under-mount installation process was straightforward, and the end result, coupled with a Venetian Bronze faucet, is an elegant and practical sink, seamlessly sponging water towards the basin.

MOCCOA Fireclay Farmhouse Kitchen Sink

Best Farmhouse Sink for Small Kitchens

If you want a high-end sink in a small kitchen, this is a great option. The MOCCOA farmhouse sink is made from fireclay, which is highly durable and resistant to damage.

This sink has a simple yet modern design. There are no seams or weak points that might leak or become damaged over time.

At a standard depth of 10 inches, you should be able to fit your pots and pans into the sink. However, its smaller footprint means the sink should fit into less spacious kitchens or on a marble kitchen island.

What We Like

Elegant Design

Despite its smaller size, this sink will still turn heads. The curved corners and edges combined with its shiny glazed surface will make it stand out.

High-Quality

As it is made from premium quality fireclay, this sink is resistant to chips, cracks, and scratches. It also won’t stain, so you don’t need to worry about the white finish becoming discolored over time.

Easy to Clean

The glazed surface is quick and easy to clean. It only requires a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth โ€” there is no need for abrasive tools or cleaners. The surface also means it won’t absorb dirt or stains, keeping it cleaner for longer.

What We Don't Like

Single Color Option

This sink is only available in white. While this means it will be suitable for the majority of kitchens, you will need to look elsewhere if you prefer a bold, dark look.

Community Feedback

Bought this sink and made it the centerpiece of my kitchen. The Moccoa Regalla is as beautiful as it is functional, with a soft white tone and a distinct handmade appeal. However, I noticed some hairline cracks, also known as crazing, shortly after installation. Despite this, I found the sink to be very durable and heavy-duty. Remember to regularly rinse it out for effective drainage, and you might fall in love with this sink just like I did.

How to Find the Best Farmhouse Sink

A farmhouse sink is a bold choice for your kitchen and will add a touch of luxury with its apron front. With so many options to choose from, there are a few key considerations that will help you find the right sink for your kitchen.

Choosing the Right Size

Length

Farmhouse sinks are generally larger than standard kitchen basins. Their length can range from 20 inches up to as much as 60 inches and in some cases even more.

Width

Some farmhouse sinks are very wide, which can occupy a lot of counter space or cause it to protrude from the front. On the other hand, if you want a large sink but don’t have enough space, the inch or two that you lose in length can be made up in width.

Consider Your Existing Space

Think about your individual requirements. If you live in a multi-person household and need to wash a lot of dishes daily, you should choose a large sink. On the other hand, if you live alone and have a small kitchen, you should be able to get by with a more conservatively sized sink.

If you are happy with the size of your current sink, you can simply measure it and choose a replacement of the same size. However, this is also a great opportunity to upgrade if you want to.

Apron

The apron is the part of a farmhouse sink that hangs from the front. The apron front is generally around 10 inches tall but there are also retrofit sinks with shorter aprons.

Retrofit sinks are usually about 3 inches shorter to fit into your existing cabinetry. If you don’t want to replace your cabinets or buy bespoke ones, we recommend choosing a retrofit sink.

Double or Single

One of your most important decisions is whether to choose a single-bowl or double-bowl sink. Although farmhouse sinks are generally single-bowl, there are still many double sinks available.

Single-bowl sinks are excellent if you usually only use the sink for one task at a time. They will enable you to clean larger pots and pans.

A double sink provides greater versatility, as you will have another bowl to work in while washing your dishes or cleaning ingredients. As farmhouse sinks are usually large, you should still be able to soak pots and pans without any difficulty.

The total size of a double farmhouse sink is usually the same as a single-bowl version. Most double farmhouse sinks have a 60/40 basin size ratio, which means one is slightly larger than the other.

Material

Like other kitchen sinks, farmhouse basins are available in various materials.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is one of the most popular kitchen sink materials. It is durable, affordable, and provides an attractive, modern look. Steel is measured by gauge; thicker steel has a higher number than a thinner grade.

There are a few things to consider when buying a stainless steel sink:

1. Durability

A higher gauge number will be thicker and denser. This generally means it will also be more durable and less prone to dents and damage. Due to their large size, farmhouse sinks are usually made using 16-gauge steel.

This 16-gauge steel provides greater strength and durability, which is why most commercial sinks in restaurants use between 14 and 16-gauge.

2. Sound and Vibrations

The thickness of the steel also has a significant influence on sound and vibrations. Water can be very loud when it hits an empty metal sink. Thin steel will be louder and cause more vibrations.

3. Scratches

However careful you are, scratches are eventually likely to appear on a stainless steel sink. However, you can minimize their impact by choosing a brushed finish as scratches will be less visible than on a gleaming smooth surface.

The apron front is also prone to scratches as it is more exposed and might get damaged by a belt buckle or other accessories when you use the sink.

Fireclay

Fireclay is a ceramic material composed of clay and glaze. The two components are fused and then fired together at extremely high temperatures that can reach 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit (1).

It is an exceptionally strong and durable material that looks very similar to enameled cast iron. It is non-porous and resistant to scratches, chips, and other damage, resulting in a sink that is very low maintenance.

The main drawback of a fireclay sink is its weight, which requires extra care to ensure it is installed safely. This is why most manufacturers recommend that you have your fireclay sink installed by a professional.

Enameled Cast Iron

Enameled cast iron sinks have been around for many years and are popular thanks to their durability and high-end appearance.

Cast iron sinks have two layers: a durable heavy iron alloy and a thick enamel coating. It is fired to about 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit (2).

This results in a solid surface with a beautiful smooth finish. A high-quality cast iron sink should stay pristine for many years.

However, they aren’t perfect. The weight of these sinks means they require professional installation and robust floors and cabinets. If cracks do appear, they can quickly rust and form spiderweb-like patterns.

Keep In Mind

If you order an enameled cast iron sink for delivery, check it closely for damage before installing it. If it arrives with a crack, however minor, return the sink and request a replacement. A minor crack can lead to major issues later, so don’t ignore it.

FAQs

Are Farmhouse Sinks Still In Style?

Yes, farmhouse sinks are still a popular choice in home dรฉcor today.

Although they have fallen out of favor over the years, they have recently resurged in popularity as more and more homeowners begin to see their unique appeal. Farmhouse sinks offer several benefits for modern homeowners.

Their wide dimensions make them ideal for large pots and pans, providing plenty of space for cooking and cleaning. Farmhouse sinks can be easily integrated into various design styles, from rustic to modern to industrial.

Furthermore, their distinctive silhouette lends a touch of old-fashioned charm to any kitchen or bathroom setting. When it comes down to it, farmhouse sinks continue to be an attractive and practical choice for contemporary homeowners.

How Much Does a Farmhouse Sink Cost?

The price of a farmhouse sink can vary from $220 (for the least expensive models) all the way up to $2,000 (for high-end sinks).

Generally speaking, a farmhouse sink will cost more than other types of sinks due to the quality of materials used and the skill required to install it.

However, some people choose this sink style because of its unique look and added functionality. For example, many people love the extra space a farmhouse sink provides for washing large pots and pans.

How Do I Keep My Farmhouse Sink White?

Keeping a farmhouse sink white can be challenging, as these sinks are frequently exposed to heavy wear and tear. There are a few key steps that you can take to ensure that your sink remains sparkling and clean for years to come.

One important strategy is avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on your sink, which can damage the finish and cause staining over time. Instead, opt for gentle products like baking soda or vinegar that are less likely to cause damage.

Another key strategy is routinely cleaning and sanitizing your sink with scouring pads or soft cloths. This will help to eliminate dirt, grime, and other substances that can accumulate in the nooks and crannies of your sink over time.

And finally, be sure to wipe up any spills immediately with a damp towel, as wet surfaces provide an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

Do You Need a Special Base Cabinet for a Farmhouse Sink?

Farmhouse sinks need base cabinets that can accommodate the design. However, you can also put a farmhouse sink on a regular cabinet if you cut out the front part to accommodate the apron.

There are many off-the-shelf options available that are specifically designed to be used with farmhouse sinks. These cabinets feature open shelving so you can easily access items stored beneath the sink. They allow for greater flexibility when choosing your faucet and other fixtures.

What Is the Difference Between Farmhouse Sink and Apron Sink?

The biggest difference between farmhouse sinks and apron sinks is that the latter has an exposed front side, while kitchen cabinets cover the former. There are other differences between these two models that are worth mentioning.

Farmhouse sinks typically have a larger overall footprint than apron sinks. This is because they generally have more room on either side of the basin, making them less of a space-saver than apron sinks.

Farmhouse sinks tend to require less bending over since their front faces come right up against surrounding cabinetry. This makes them ideal for those who need easy access to the space below their sinks.

In contrast, apron sinks usually do not require as much lateral space around them to function effectively. They are a more accommodating choice for those with limited cabinet space or little free floor area in their kitchens.
